The Government launched a consultation on its proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and other changes to the planning system on 30 July 2024.
The consultation proposes a new way of calculating the starting point for determining each local planning authority (LPA) housing requirement. This seeks to achieve a step change in delivery, with the outcome of the new Standard Method totalling c. 370,000 homes each year.
The North West Site Searching Index provides a simple means of understanding the likely impact of the proposed Standard Method on each North West LPA or joint spatial planning area (as far as is possible at this point in time!). The Index takes account of other proposed policy changes and limitations within the consultation draft NPPF to indicate where councils may require additional sites to help meet housing needs. For each a broad delivery period is identifed, taken from 2024 onwards for a typical plan periuod:
The Index is available to download from this page as an A1 Poster or booklet format. It will be updated on publication of the NPPF and then quarterly thereafter.
Please note: The Index is a high level indication for information purposes only. Users should always conduct their own due diligence before entering into contracts to promote land.
